My Hair Care Routine
I have knee to ankle very long straight fine glass hair. Here I'm sharing my entire hair care routine and all the products that I use.
Here is my full hair routine and all the hair products that I use. But first things first:
I have hair below my knees and my hair if fine, very soft, glass, European type. My hair doesn't hold curls, and neither it holds hair tires or claws - they keep slipping all the time. My hair is spiderweb light and each single hair is very fine. Silky feeling to it is a plus, constant tangling - is on a cons side.
I do not believe that hair products is the most important aspect of having healthy and long hair. I think diet, climate, water quality and stress level are much more important than what shampoo is used. But then this is just my humble opinion.
1. Hair Products for Fine, Long, Glass Hair
I don't have anything extra niche or expensive. I try something new from time to time but I haven't found anything superior to what I use already.
Shampoo and Conditioner: I've been using Desert Essence for years. I mean like... 15 years or so. It is simple and honest product. Clean, good ingredients that I like (I'm a bit on a nerd side about the ingredients but then I'm not a chemist or anything, so don't trust me blindly). I don't think different scents from their line do different things, so I just buy whatever I'm in the mood for and keep rotating them. Scents are lovely, not chemical, very pleasant.
BTW if you are just starting with iHerb, I wrote an article on how to maximize your savings on iHerb.
Hair oil for the ends: I'm with L'anza Keratin Healing Oil since Covid. What I love about it: it is light! The issue with my hair that pretty much any oil weights it down. But L'anza is very light. I apply just one pump to the length of my hair in the evening to let it get absorbed. Right after application hair does look like it has been dunked into oil: greasy and not pretty at all. But by the morning it miraculously looks nice and shiny. Plus this oil is a huuuuuuge detangling help.
Scalp prewash treatments: I tried quite a few, my fave is The INKEY List Glycolic Acid Exfoliating Scalp Scrub. I used it no more than once a week. There are a quite few other that do a good job but this one gives some... I dunno crisp feeling to my roots that I enjoy.
Hair brush: I got my first Tangle Teezer travel size in 2017 and finally replaced it in 2026 (and honestly only cuz I saw it on sale in Japan) lol. I travel a lot and pretty much constantly on the move, so for me size really matters. This one is just very comfortable and easy to carry around. And it lasts for years despite me constantly dropping it. BTW pro tip: if you wanna buy one - go for a black one (or one with black bottom); white should be fine as well. My new one is nice emerald green but the bottom is all scratched and just after half of a year looks worse that my old one did after 9 years.
I do have a no-name $3 comb as well which often works better when my hair gets waaay too tangled.
Hair scalp massager: I really wanna one with the batteries but it looks just to big for my suitcase, so I'm using regular simple manual one. I got my on iHerb, it's Giovanny brand but honestly they seem all pretty much the same. I guess I would better buy one from iHerb rather than Shein just to make sure that silicon is good quality and safe to use. Otherwise - I don't think they differ much.
It is believed that they promote better blood circulation but even if that is a myth, still - it just feels soooo good!!! So yeh, I do use every night before going to bed.
2. Silk Pillowcase. Do you need one?
Alright, until recently I thought this is a total fraud. Then I tried one at my friend's place during my recent trip in August 2026 and... well.. now I want one.
First when I got to touch the one she put on my bed - it did not even feel that nice and "silky", so I was sure I'll have a reason to complain about her buying expensive hyped stuff that provides no benefits lol. But when I woke up in the morning - my hair was tangled much less compared to its usual state after sleeping on my cotton and linen pillow cases. FYI I hate to sleep with braids or in those silly bonnets, I like to rest with my hair down.
Anyways, now I'm looking into silk pillow cases. It is pricy-ish but after sleeping on one for a week I think I'm sold.
BTW, at my friend's place it was a silk pillowcase by Lilly Silk. I'm not sure I'm gonna buy the same brand, so let's see! I'll post an update as soon as I get one!
3. Water Quality
I think this is a very underestimated thing that affects hair sooooo much!
I started to shed like crazy when I moved to Baja California Sur. I had the same diet, same hair products, same everything really except for water and climate. And I have to say that water quality there is very bad. I stopped washing my face in the morning because my skin became extremely dry (and normally my skin is on the oily side) but I could not really stop washing my hair... And I was not ready to invest into good filtration system at a rental place... So, I got a portable filter that you screw on your shower. I have SparkPod filter. They all claim 12-18 something steps filtration system. I don't buy that but I have to say that my filter improves water quality: when I install a new filter - the shower stays clean, no calcification on shower head or glass walls. About 2 months later, when I start noticing stains on shower head and walls - I know it is time to change the filter. Plus, when I unscrew old filter to change there's usually so much debris caught by metal mesh inside the filter - sand and and algae and who knows what else. So, while I don't believe that this is a paramount to filter water from whatever bad in it - I know that portable filters do help.
4. Diet and Supplements
I truly believe that if you are on potato chips&coca cola diet - there is no shampoo or scalp serum that can possibly save your hair. Walmart shampoo + balanced diet will do better than expensive lux shampoo + unhealthy food.
At the same time I can not say that I'm crazy about eating only healthy, organic, keto whatever else is trendy stuff now... I don't eat red meat and birds. I do eat a lot of fish and seafood. I'm big fan of fruits (and any other sugar honestly, except for sweet drinks). I love pasta and occasional pizza. I have a cup of coffee every morning, and afterwards about 4-6 cups of tea during the day. I try to drink 1,5 liters of water on a daily basis. I barely ever buy potato chips and such. But then I can totally devour a big bag of Haribo gummies within a day (or less). So, nothing crazy but sort of on a healthy-ish side.
For supplements I take only vitamin C. That's it. A few days ago I got a can of Pumpkin seed oil and started to take daily 1000mg because I read so much about its properties to prevent hair loss. FYI I don't have a massive hair loss but I do stress out every time I see a bit more than just a couple of hairs on the brush.
5. Climate
I don't think there is a solution that will suit all but I do see how much better my hair (and skin) look in hot humid climate. I don't have freeze issue, so yes, bring me so Thailand humid air. I love breathing with my gills. I love how plum my skin is. And I love how happy my hair looks.
6. Stress Lever
Assuming that you are in a good overall health, I believe that stress level management is the most important thing to take care of. If you are unhappy - no amount of good hair products, eco food or spring water to wash your hair will make a difference. So, get a hobby, sit to meditate or do whatever else that brings you peace of mind. This. is. the. most. important. thing. I know, sometimes it feels nearly impossible to achieve but seriously, this is not just for good looking hair. This is literally one of the most important thing.
